PS - Broke as a Spoke now has a Facebook page! Check it out!
If you live in Indianapolis, and want a fancy night out for a decent price, take a look at Devour Downtown Winterfest. There is a whole list of upscale downtown restaurants offering a 3 course meal for $30. It’s a great way to bring business downtown, try restaurants that would normally be out of budget, and have a great date night. It ends this Sunday, so you have to hurry. We’ll be going to celebrate an early Valentine’s Day.
Tax Time -
January 30, 2007
I attempted to do my taxes this weekend through H&R Block, and it wasn’t pretty. I’m missing some paperwork that I don’t think I am going to receive for various reasons (start up company and an address change) which flustered me. Various tax calculators have me owing approximately $1,000, so I decided it would be best to invest in the help of a professional.
$100 to make sure my taxes are done right and ask all the questions I want seems worth it to me. Next year I will tackle them myself since there won’t be anything to throw me for a loop.
Do you do your own taxes? What program do you use? Do you love your accountant to bits?
PayPerPost Puzzle -
January 27, 2007

PayPerPost is one of my favorite ways to earn a little extra cash. They pay you to blog, which I do anyway, so it’s a no brainer. To share the PPP love and draw a little extra traffic to this new site, I thought I’d post a piece to the newest hp camera puzzle. Collect all 48 puzzle pieces and be the first to post them on your blog, and you could win $1,000. Of course, you have to sign up first.
Opt Out -
January 26, 2007
If your mailbox is full of credit card applications, and they are all too tempting to pass up, then opt out. Adding your name to the list means you won’t be solicited for credit cards, auto loans, and other such products. The online form lets you opt out for five years, while the snail mail form lets you opt out permanently.
I find the credit card solicitations useful at times. I’m a balance transfer kind of girl (with Suze Orman’s blessing), and it’s saved me loads of cash, and I wouldn’t know about those opportunities unless I checked my mail.
January 24-28 -
January 24, 2007
I’m going to challenge myself not to spend any money between now and Monday, so don’t expect a daily dollars update…unless of course, I slip up.
We’re in Debt talked about how Netflix saves them money, and I agree 100%. While I loved my local independent video store, I was droppnig $15 each trip. For $5 more, I can watch all the same movies plus tons more anytime I want. Netflix also keeps me from ordering cable, which I think is absurdly expensive. Between Netflix and our antenna, we watch all the TV we need.
If you haven’t tried Netflix, let me know and I will send you a coupon for a free trial!

I love Valentine’s Day, so I don’t mind spending money on gifts. I guess it’s one of my “non-negotiables”.

Snowball Method -
January 23, 2007
We’re in Debt evaluated the Snowball Method to determined how they were going to pay off their credit card bills and decided a mixture of the two methods was the best way to go.
I started by paying minimum payments on all my cards, except the one with the highest interest rate, which I threw as much money as I could spare at. Once that card was paid off, I “snowballed” that payment into the card with the next highest interest rate, and so on.
I currently have two credit cards left, both at 0% for the next six months. I have enough money to pay off both cards, but have decided to make the minimum payment and keep the payoff amount in my ING account to gain 4.5% interest until the 0% expires and the balances is due in full (in my mind).
If you’re interested in an ING account, send me an email at corrinrenee@gmail.com and I will send you a referral. You get $25 and I get $10. Can’t beat free money!
