Coed Dies Parents Sue Friends - February 29, 2008

I’m watching Nancy Grace, and she is speaking to the parents of a college girl who drank herself death on her 21st birthday. If that weren’t tragic enough, the parents are now sueing their daughter’s friends (who made sure she got home safely, laid her on her side so she wouldn’t choke on her own vomit, and checked on her first thing in the morning) for her death on the basis that they set out to get her intoxicated…also known as celebrating her 21st birthday.

Instead of blaming someone else for their daughter’s death, the parents need to come to terms with the fact that their daugher was responsible for her own actions and knew the consequences, especially consdering that the girl has 2 underage DUI’s on her record.

There are no good samaritan requirements in our judicial system, and even if there were, the girl’s friends did what they thought was appropriate to make sure that she was taken care of properly. I’ve helped friends home after a few drinks, and I’ve had friends help me home, but my family would never expect someone else to be responsible for my actions.

This is what happens when parents don’t teach their children responsibility and recognize substance abuse problems! What is that money going to for them that could make up for their daughter’s death? What point is this lawsuit going to prove?

Our new dryer was delivered early this morning and after a small tip the installers took our old dryer and dropped it off at the junk yard for us!

I never thought I would be excited to do laundry, but my husband and I were fighting over who would do the first load this morning! I could see fighting over who gets to lounge in new home theater chairs first, but fighting over who gets to wash the first load of towels? Crazy talk!

Sick Day - February 29, 2008

Even though I had my flu shot last fall, I caught the bug my husband had last week and had to take a sick day. I thought I was going to be okay, but yesterday morning I had a sore throat, and by the end of the day I had the chills so bad my teeth were chattering.

I’ve only been at my new job for two weeks, and I’ve missed two days. One due to being sick, and one due to the snow storm that hit Chicago earlier this week. I’m one of of those people that is very organized, have my day planner with me everywhere I go, and am always on time, so it frustrates me to take a sick day so early into my new job because I don’t want to give the wrong impression about my worth ethic…that’s why I made sure to bring some paperwork home with me so I could get a few things done for Monday!

February 27 thru 28 - February 28, 2008

I drove right past McDonald’s today on my way to work. I didn’t hesitate, salivate, or otherwise make any move that would pull my car into the drive-thru lane.

I did stop at the Post Office to mail my aunt’s birthday present.

Car Repairs - February 27, 2008

I won’t be shopping for car accessories anytime in the near future. I’ll be too busy paying for car repairs! In the past three months, I’ve had to get my car towed, install a new battery, replace the gas regulator, and now I have to get my windshield wipers fixed!

After yesterday’s snow storm, they are stuck in the up position. They work just fine, but when I turn them off, they don’t tuck under the hood, they go straight up and block my view!

The same thing happened last winter, and I think it was around $100 to fix. I’m not looking forward to paying another repair bill, but it is better than a car payment!

Time to Exhale - February 27, 2008

I feel a great sense of relief today. Of accomplishment. Of a hole being burnt in my pocket. I got my first paycheck from my new employer today! My first paycheck in almost two months.

My check was only for a half of a pay-period, but we can now get back to our tried and true budgeting system and stick to payment dates without putting them off to the last minute to make sure we have enough to cover everything.

I feel like I can exhale now!
