I took advantage of some online after-Christmas sales today.
- $41 Old Navy (you just can’t pass up $2.99 pajama pants)
- $104 Sephora (technically, medication, since I ordered vitamins)
- $68 Amazon
- $30 Victoria Secret (only the best cotton undie lingerie)
- $26 Zazzle (half off business cards!)
- $199 mail-order pharmacy (90 days worth of real medication)

Things have been low-key since Christmas.
I lost one of the backs to my diamond earrings that needed to be replaced, so I stopped at the jewelry store. I wasn’t about to pay $90 for a new platinum back, so I switched to white gold for $20.
While I was there, I also had my wedding rings replated with rhodium and now they look just as shiny as new. Well worth the $36.

Ponzi Scheme -

While listening to NPR last week, my husband asked me what a Ponzi Scheme was, and I was excited to explain because I found the background story so interesting when I first learned about it in college.
A Ponzi Scheme is an investment operation that pays returns to investors with the investments of new investors instead of from a true profit. Eventually the earnings from new investors is less than the payouts needed, so the entire system collapses.
Charles Ponzi came to the US from Italy in 1903, and while he wasn’t the first to implement the scheme, it was named after him because the amount of money he took in made him headline news. Ponzi started by taking advantage of the price difference between international reply coupons and post stamps and became a millionaire within months, luring over 40,000 investors with the promise of a 50% ROI in 45 days.
It’s a tangled web, and Ponzi was only able to pay back about 2/3 of the investors, which is more than some of the current Ponzi Schemes!
Financial Resolutions -

Are we talking New Year’s resolutions yet? Good, because I’m excited to take a different approach this year. I’m mixing things up and making resolutions to do and not to do certain things.
- I will not use my credit card.
- I will use at least one coupon every trip to the grocery and focus on healthy cooking.
- I will put money into savings every payday, even if it is only $10.
- I will not be discouraged if we don’t reach out lofty financial goals in 2009.
- Pay off all consumer debt
- Save $10,000 towards the down payment on a home
- I will put all money made from blogging in savings.
I think those are pretty simple, straightforward do’s and don’ts. Do you have your 2009 goals and/or resolutions ready?

My sister and I ventured out the morning after Christmas and were shocked at how empty the stores were! We had some icy weather, which could have contributed, but it was almost a pleasant shopping experience. We didn’t see any fights over the last pop up tv like we have in previous years!
Just like every year, I stop at Target to get next year’s Christmas cards 50% off and pick up a storage container for my newest holiday decorations.

- $70 Walmart
- $118 GAP
- $11 Jimmy John’s
- $39 AT&T
- $165 Target
- $19 gas
- $25 doctor
- $90 Costco
- $20 Portillo’s
Lots of stuff in there. Even though we called off Christmas, there were ome last minute presents and wrapping that were needed, a visit to a quack of a doctor, bills, car maintenance supplies, and our weakness, Costco.
