May 13 thru 15 - May 15, 2009
  • $19 gas
  • $28 manicure
  • $50 Target
  • $55 IKEA
  • $80 Pappadeaux.

My husband and I had big plans to go to Brookfield Zoo today, but then the rain started. Instead, we roamed around IKEA and bought a few things for our patio and had an absolutely huge lunch (appetizer, desert, entrees, and a drink) at one of my favorite restaurants, Pappadeaux. It was good quality time.

May 12 - May 12, 2009
  • $140 grocery
  • $27 gas

I’m never taking my husband grocery shopping with me again. We went to pick up a few things and walked out spending far more than I intended. Cookies, crackers, and frozen pizzas made their way into my cart, when I rarely buy those things. Hope it all lasts until next payday!

May 9 thru 11 - May 11, 2009
  • $18 Chipotle
  • $9 movies
  • $20 Target
  • $44 Menards

Date night and enough flowers to make a balcony feel like summer. The free patio furniture from my parents helped, too.

May 5 thru 8 - May 8, 2009
  • $6 McDonald’s
  • $1106 rent (which I bounced – lovely)
  • $32 insufficient funds (even lovelier)
  • $376 car
  • $64 Sprint
  • $87 NIPSCO
  • $200 Banana Republic
  • $100 Bill Me Later (0% for 6 months on my camera- woot woot)
  • $5 Starbucks
  • $160 ING
  • $18 gas
  • $150 tanning (Vegas in two weeks – don’t judge)
  • $42 Bar Louie
  • $53 Applebees

For the first time in eleven years (meaning EVER) I bounced a check. I deposited my paycheck the same day that our rent check was cashed, and the rent check obviously won in the race to my account.

April Paid Blogging - May 4, 2009

It’s probably not a new development, but I’ve noticed as of late how reluctant bloggers are to disclose exactly how much they make blogging and from which sources. Even at a blogging conference I was at earlier panelist said that they would not be discussing how much they make, which seems a little ridiculous when the panel is about making money blogging.

Luckily (for someone, I don’t know who), I don’t find the subject that taboo. Here’s how April breaks down…

Total = $557.24

I didn’t reach my $600 goal, but I’m still happy with this month’s earnings. May’s goal is $250 and I’ll be back again in a month to tell you all about it!

Protect America (and their homes) - May 4, 2009

My husband and I may not have a lot, but we like and appreciate what we have, and want to keep it safe. We also can’t afford to replace anything should it ever be stolen. A wireless security system from Protect America can keep us and our belongings safe.

Since we live in a busy apartment complex and I’m home alone many nights, I’ve felt vulnerable more than once. I’ve seen suspicious people walking around at night, cops settling disputes at other apartments, and broken car windshields. It’s only a matter of time until the thieves move from cars to apartments and I make a point of keeping our shades drawn so they can’t see the plethora of electronics in our office.

We’re planning to move to a better neighborhood when we purchase a home, but that doesn’t make a home security system any less of a priority. Not only does a good alarm system keep your belongings safe, it also keeps your loved ones safe. The Silver Package from Protect America is only $34.95 a month and provides protection for up to 10 entry points, 24/7 monitoring, as well as an internal siren and door chimes to alert you to someone entering or exiting your home.

And when you sign up by calling 877-470-2751 you’ll also receive 2 key chain remotes, which allows you to arm and disarm the system, as well as send a panic signal from anywhere in your home. An excellent investment for any homeowner!

May 1 thru 4 - May 4, 2009

Due to our recent splurges, I kept myself cooped up and away from any cash registers this weekend. I’m hoping to keep it up until our trip to Vegas later this month!
