In the next couple of years, Mortgage Rates are going to become very important to my boyfriend (husband by then) and I, as we start to look for homes. Oregon mortgages are going to be of particular interest, since that’s the state we’ve thrown around to settle down. Particularly, Portland.
We have a good idea of what we can afford, but the mortage rate will determine how much bag we get for our buck, and fiddling with mortage calculators has really helped to put things into perspective.
It’s going to be a long and scary road to home ownership!
I was very proud of myself this morning for tackling my taxes through H&R Block (which is offering free federal filing), until I got an email saying I inadvertently put a space in one of the EIN and I’ll have to correct, print, and mail everything.
I ended up owing money, but not nearly as much as I had anticipated. All the tax calculators estimated $1,000+, and it turned out to only be $200. I’ve never been so happy to owe money in my life.
Uneventful spending weekend. I went out to lunch Superbowl Sunday with my other half and I stocked up on groceries for the next two weeks.
Chipotle’s softdrink machine was down, which was good for two reasons. It saved us $3 and we were able to enjoy our food without being sick to our stomaches because were pumped ourselves full of sugar water.
Think how much money you could save in a year (and how many pounds you’d lose) if you just cut out softdrinks. Say you eat out twice a week. At $2 a pop, that’s $208. That’s a Sallie Mae payment!
I attempted to do my taxes this weekend through H&R Block, and it wasn’t pretty. I’m missing some paperwork that I don’t think I am going to receive for various reasons (start up company and an address change) which flustered me. Various tax calculators have me owing approximately $1,000, so I decided it would be best to invest in the help of a professional.
$100 to make sure my taxes are done right and ask all the questions I want seems worth it to me. Next year I will tackle them myself since there won’t be anything to throw me for a loop.
Do you do your own taxes? What program do you use? Do you love your accountant to bits?
We’ve all heard of the latte factor, but are there some luxuries that you consider non-negotiable?
Oprah has a fancy latte factor calculator which shows you just how fast those little expenses add up and how much money we’re all potentially wasting.
Does this change your mind on those non-negotiables?
