PS - Broke as a Spoke now has a Facebook page! Check it out!
As of 4 o’clock today, I will be unemployed. A conversation with my new boss this morning about marketing that escalated quickly was the straw that broke the camel’s back and I will be putting in my resignation at the end of the business day.Â
I have quite a few resumes out and connections on the lookout, but there will be no gold cufflinks, or brand name food for that matter, in our future!
Going into Business -
January 14, 2008
My wheels are always turning, thinking about new ways to develop income, and ultimately suceed to the point where I can work for myself full-time. I think the only way to be 100% secure in your future is to be in ultimate control of it by owning your own business, no matter the size. Bill FitzPatrick.com is an informational and educational site aimed to help launch successful small businesses of any kind, with the goal of being rich and retired in less than 20 years.
Comfortable and retired will do for me, and Master Small Business stresses the importance of a positive attitude, pursuing a venture that you enjoy and works with your belief system, and ways to finance your venture. It’s a nice balance between the practicalities of business and real life concerns, which habors success and the creature comforts that go with it.
I’ve moved twice since I started this blog, so I’m sure I’ve complained about this before, but how is it that you live in one location and have everything you need to live a reasonably organized life and then you move and you suddenly have nothing you need to function?
I had to make a late night run to Target last night to get sheets, pillows, a garbage can, trash bags, and a rug for the front door. Today I need to go back because I have a whole list of items, from a bath caddy to salt and pepper shakers.
By the time all is said and done, I bet I spend $250 at Target.
Buying a Home -
January 2, 2008
My parents are in the midst of researching mortgage loans for their new home, and I believe they are scheduled to meet with their loan officer this week to finialize all the details. Since my husband and I are lowly renters with the dream of owning our own home in the next few years, I’ve been paying close attention to the process my parents are going through and asking questions as they discuss the process.
The first step we’re taking towards home ownership is securing our good credit. we are doing this by paying our bills in full and on time and stashing away as much money as possible for a down payment and incidentals like closing costs and repairs. With a little hard work and research we should be proud home owners by 2010!
Movers Chicago -
November 19, 2007
My goal is to be back in Chicago by January 1st, even though I’ve only gotten a few calls from potential employers. No job means limited funds, which also means I’ll be consulting Movers Chicago to make this move as smooth and cost effective as possible. In & Out Movers and Storage can help me find a mover and a storage facility on a budget, and they offer lots of great resources for packing materials and price quotes.
My husband and I have been talking a lot about moving, our timeline for purchasing a house, and a plan for budgeting and saving for a down payment, and the entire process can be very overwhelming. We find that breaking it down into short-term goals really helps us digest all the information.
As part of our research phase, I discovered Modernlend who provides mortage leads for lenders and borrowers so that both parties can get as much out of the lending experience as possible.
Potential borrowers complete their application online, which is then sent to lenders to review and make an offer. Through this process, Modernlend allows lenders select qualified buyers and gain customers and borrowers receive the best offers from multiple lending institutions.
I want lenders to compete for my business so that I have options and can bargin and negotiate and Modernlend makes that happen.
Colorado Bound -
November 3, 2007
I’ve mentioned many times that my husband and I hope to move to Colorado within the next year, so I was very happy to see Denver on the list of places to get ahead in a starter city. Factors taken into consideration were affordability, income growth, diversity, entertainment, and crime rates, also things that we considered when choosing a destination.
I’ve only heard people say good things about Colorado and it’s nice to know that we won’t get a colon cleanse on the cost of living (if you know what I mean) and will be able to save money for a downpayment on a home.
