I don’t do much of the cleaning in my house (I’m more of a tidier; my husband is the deep cleaner) but I do all the shopping. In addition to being price conscious, I try to choose products that are the best for my family and the environment.
Seventh Generation is a favorite of mine that has been leading the “responsible cleaning” crusade for over 20 years, using the power of the herb thyme to clean and disinfect! Thymol is a component of the herb thyme and is a non-toxic and environmentally safe way to clean counter tops, cutting boards, kid’s toys, and more. I always have the disinfecting wipes around to clean up little spills and puppy accidents.
Not only are Seventh Generation products eco-friendly, they are budget-friendly, and you can save even more when you register for the Seventh Generation Nation and print valuable coupons! Between my local retailer and coupons, Seventh Generation products are cheaper than most harsh disinfectants.
If you want to learn more about what is good for you and our planet, Seventh Generation has paired with eco-lifestyle consultant Alexandra Zissu, author of The Conscious Kitchen: The New Way to Buy and Cook Food – to Protect the Earth, Improve Your Health, and Eat Deliciously. Her book includes great tips that everyone can consider for maintaining a green and healthy kitchen.
Are you ready to make the switch to non-toxic Seventh Generation products? I’ll make it easy – I have a prize pack for one lucky reader that contains:
-
disinfecting multisurface cleaner
-
disinfecting bathroom cleaner
-
disinfecting wipes
-
a copy of The Conscious Kitchen
-
2 rolls of 100% recycled, unbleached paper towels
-
all in a cleaning caddy made of recycled plastic!
Here’s how to enter:
Main Entry – that means you must complete this entry to win!
-
How do you keep your family safe from harmful chemicals?
Extra Entries – You can complete any of all of these for extra entries! Please leave a separate comment for each entry!

I do my best to purchase non toxic products. I store my cleaning products out of reach. I can’t even reach them. I have to find a chair to stand on. I also have those child proof locks which are more like adult proof.
We use simple products with more elbow grease – no need for strong chemicals.
I make some of my own cleaners.
I USE BAKING SODA AND VINEGAR TO DO A LOT OF MY CLEANING
Use natural products like vinegar.
Our harsh cleaners are on a high shelf. We also have Natural products.
i try to use green products!

I try not to use any harsh chemicals in my cleaning products. Natural products can do a great job too! Also, steam is a great cleaner – I have a steam mop that gets the job done.
I try to make my own cleaners using lemon juice, vinegar, etc.
Now that we have a new baby in the house (she’s 3 months) we have started replacing our toxic household cleaners with safer non-toxic alternatives.

Our son works for Shaklee and their organic products are super.
I read labels
First we have a open window policy whenever it’s above 65 outside, this keeps chemicals from building up in doors and we try to use natural or made at home cleaners like vinegar, baking soda, and salt.
I’ve been switching over more and more of our cleaning products to natural alternatives as the conventional products run out and we grow our own organic fruits and veggies.
Subscribed for email. I do not tweet or twitter or squeak.
As a grandparent I am aware that many child poisonings happen in grandparents homes. This is because grandparents don’t take precautions not having any children around. All of my cleaning products and any harsh chemical substances are kept in our locked garage where you cannot go without a key or an electronic door opener. When grandkids grow old enough to be safe with these products there will probably be great grandbabies on the horizon so I will just keep it locked.
Try to keep harmful chemicals out of the house if I can.
Use natural products.
I use natural cleaners as much as I can
Well to keep my family safe I make sure that all of my cleaning products are kept in a cupboard with a child proof lock well out of the way of little hands, and I am gradually looking for products that are more child friendly!
We use a steam cleaner for the floors..no chemicals for me!
I usually try not to use any chemicals to clean, just water if possible.
I do not use any harsh chemicals.
